To make a lasagna, you need to gather a certain number of ingredients (each with its own recipe) and to devote the right amount of time for each step. A bit like the life of Giuseppina, who arrived in Switzerland in the 60s at the age of 17, as a young bride. She went on to work in the watchmaking industry, while also becoming a mother and grandmother. Her grandson Davide has become an actor and drag enthusiast – like Ali, a young man of Moroccan origin who is still unsure whether he will be able to remain in the country. Four years after Les Italiens, Massimo Furlan and Claire de Ribaupierre now examine Italian immigration from the perspective of women. Giuseppina and her friends Davide and Ali talk, dance and cook as they tell the story of their lives – with their ups and downs, their comings and goings – against the backdrop of a little-known chapter in the history of Switzerland, all told in a delightful Jura-Italian accent.
